Eating Well in a World of Temptation

Welcome to Eat Better Now

December 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Welcome to my new blog.

I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist from the renowned Institute of Optimum Nutrition in 2007 and decided to set this blog up as I wanted to have a space where I could educate and inform, let off steam and put across my opinion on all things to do with food and nutrition.  I also wanted to give people a library of accessible info that covers the basic foundations of good health.

In today’s world we are tempted every step of our way down the high street.  Of course, everything has its place and companies have to make profits, but for some it’s incredibly hard to say no.  I know because that’s how I used to be  (and sometimes still am)!!

I implicitly believe that food is the foundation of human life and therefore what we put in our bodies is really important. That said, I don’t aim to be evangelical or judgemental about anything, I had a career in the media industry before this and have seen my fair share of hedonism. Of course there are things you shouldn’t eat, drink or do; but then what about the things that have been demonised in the press because of one fad or another?  I eat predominately organic food, have a little bit of a sweet tooth, eat meat, drink coffee and alcohol and have been known to go out past midnight every now and again ;-). It’s everything in moderation.

But then what is moderation?  A whole other post in itself!

The modern world is full of temptation on a second-by-second basis so is it surprising that so many people are seduced into bad habits, yo-yo dieting or fretting about which diet their favourite celebrity is following this week; low-fat, low-carb, high protein, so on and so forth…??  This is a place where you can come to for sound, practical and clear advice and a bit of myth de-bunking to boot.  No fads, no over complicated cooking (I’m not a chef by a long-shot), just clear, concise information, jargon-free commentary of recent scientific findings, recipes plus tips and tricks to keep you on the right side of health.

If you like what I’m writing, then please let me know, and like-wise, if you think I’m barking up the wrong tree then feel free to challenge me with why.

Best wishes,

Alison
